A First Aid Fire fighting and Marshalling training day - very useful, practical training and guidance to managing Fire and determining what equipment is most appropriate to mitigating risk.

9:45: The physics, chemistry and behavior of Fire, smoke and associated toxins.
A little more than The ‘Fire Triangle’ - Identifying the three elements that fire needs, to continue:
10:30: Coffee
10:40: Briefing and discussion on actions when Fire is discovered

10:50: Fire Alarm Systems Instruction
Key Points:
11:10: On your return to the workplace.
When is it safe to return? What about forensic and other investigation?
11:15: Signs for Fire Action, evacuation and direction
The lawful minimum and what is recommended.
11:20: Fire Safety and in Construction works and remote sites
Key points include:
11:50: Fire classifications (as remarked on each extinguisher themselves).
12:30: Sandwich lunch break
13:00: Safe use of portable fire extinguishers.
13:30: Practical instruction and fire fighting practise with water, foam and carbon dioxide extinguishers; using fire trays, on open ground.

Our Aluminium works presents special risks, which Helios accommodated in training against our revised risk assessment. Job well done and so far as the practical for portables is concerned; even our accounts staff became enthusiastically able in picking the right extinguisher and putting out a variety of fires!
