Checking and calibrating gas detectors should be done according to the maker's handbook, using audited calibration gases and traceable records.
When gas monitoring represents part of your CoSHH responsibilities and audited risk assessments, your calibration record represents part of the compliance routines.
This standard calibration routine may be carried out mail order and ordered on line. It covers all personal gas detectors manufactured by BW Honeywell and RAE systems and caters for up to four standard gas types: Oxygen, Hydrogen Sulphide, Flammable gases (calibrated to Methane) and Carbon Monoxide. Your equipment is usually processed on teh day we receive it from you, for return within the week, by Royal Mail, Special Delivery.
Should your detector need new parts, we will advice you by email, detailing any additional costs, prior to undertaking the work. Should you decide to cancel (for instance when a machine is beyond economic repair) all you will pay is the postage cost of its return to you, or otherwise a charge of £5 for safe disposal of the old machine, as these instruments fall under WEEE Regulations, as special, or hazardous waste. Usually, a gas detector should have a useful life of at least ten years and it will require new galvanic, detection cells every year or two. For guidance; oxygen cells cost about £70 and 'Sulphide', or 'Monoxide' cells about £130.
A copy of your calibration report is sent to you electronically, for incorporation in to your records.
