The G-Saver II, robust, retractable fall arrest and emergency retrievel winch, is available with Galvanised, or Stainless steel cable, ranging from seven to 34 Metres in length.
This version has usual reaches extended to 20 Metres of galvanised, 5mm, roped steel cable, which breaking strain exceeds a ton.To accommodate the wire spool, it has a larger heavier case than the 7 and 14 Metre versions which share similar cases and gear boxes. The down side, in using this model is in its heavier weight and larger size, making it less convenient to carry over rough terrain and awkaward access points.
It should be noted that the maximum load accepted under approval testing, is 136 Kg weight.
Made in Britain, it is tested to the requirements of EN360 and it is suitable for use with fixed anchorages, tripods and ideal for confined spaces access and egress support. The cable's safety hook included a 'tell-tale' device that shows red, when the approved, safe load has been exceeded.
In fall arrest mode, the G-Saver has an inertia brake, to safely arrest falls. Casualties can be recovered by engaging the specially geared, winding handle; either by raising or lowering, by the winch man. With rescue complete, the inertia system is re-engaged and the cable will self-retrieve, the winch man providing a small tension, to assist correct re-winding.
All fall arrest devices must be inspected and tested functional prior to use and a record maintained of usage and periodic load testing and certification. These devices are goverened under LOLER and the PPE Regulations and, in this case, the maker's recommendation is that it be examined and certified competent, at intervals no greater than twelve months.
